It is printed on handmade paper that has real cornflowers pressed into the paper itself. The front features vintage art of a sea monster attacking a ship and snatching a sailor to drown. This art was chosen as Ran, Goddess of the Wild Sea, is known for her net, with which she was said to drown sailors and bring them to her hall beneath the sea. The back features a prayer that is the creation of the Trickster’s Apothecary and shared through these cards with Ran’s blessing. These prayer cards can be used in the same way saint prayer cards are used in folk magic, as well as for using the image as a focus in meditation and the prayer for communion with Ran. She is a more obscure goddess with less information available about her than about other deities; we hope this prayer card helps inspire interest in this often ignored goddess who is deeply meaningful to our own practice.

Each card measures 2.5x3.5 inches.

Prayer is the easiest, lowest cost way to connect with a deity, and speaking with them often helps deepen your relationship as it would with any physical person. Pre-written prayers can be used as a chant during meditation, when using prayer beads and rosaries, and as a familiar pathway to connect with a given deity. Freeform prayer in the form of speaking directly to your deity with whatever is on your mind can be uncomfortable if it is not a familiar act. To open that door, we have crafted our prayers to ease anyone into prayer with pagan deities with prayers that are pre-written and have the blessing of the deity they are created for. Reach out to your deities with ease and confidence, knowing that their ears will recognize the familiar words.

We encourage the use of our prayers in anyone’s personal practice, but do not consent to our prayers being used for professional use or for profit in any capacity, including but not limited to products, merchandise, and any form of advertising. While Njord is the god of sea travel and her husband Aegir is the god of the gentle sea, Rán rules the treacherous ocean waters. She was known to have a golden hall at the bottom of the sea where the drowned spent their afterlife until she released them to another Afterlife Hall. This hall is where Rán and Aegir entertained the gods on many occasions: it is also the setting of the Lokasenna tale. She was often said to be the original creator of the net, which she used to drag sailors down to join her hall. Sailors would carry gold, particularly coins, as offerings to Rán for safe passage across her seas. They hoped that, should Rán pull them off their ships, she would take only their gold and let them leave alive. Gold was said to be the fire of the sea and was known to be the source of light in her hall. Here, she's depicted in the same style as Norse wooden god-posts. Gold coins are entangled in her hair with skull nestled at her throat. Below her head is her signature net. This original design was hand-carved by us before being casted in genuine natural materials using the same process as most pagan statuary.

We have the following statuary materials available:

Bonded copper carbonate

Golden: This is the only statue not made of natural materials. It's made with resin and colored with golden mica. Like folk magic practitioners before us, we work with the best materials available for the task at hand: this includes resin. Despite not being a natural material, we work with resin for its alchemical property of transformation. Under its own power, resin transforms itself from a liquid to solid state through heat it produces itself. We view this as an alchemical metamorphosis and prize this material for that purpose.

Each statue is hand-painted with black, gold, and/or red to highlight her features. Each bead is wrapped by hand with intention to call in this goddess of icy, turbulent waters and the flashing fire of gold they contain. Wear or pray with this rosary to call in the blessings of Rán, the abundance of her waters, and her apotropaic blessings, that you may pass through even the most turbulent of waters unscathed.

This rosary is handmade with 4 sections of 9 beads that call in the essence of blood in the water, sacred to Rán who cares for the drowned and those who perish at sea. All elements are strung on gold-tone stainless steel. The number four was chosen to calling stability while navigating difficult waters, while 9 was chosen for being so very sacred in the Norse cosmology. Two sections of 3 red lodolite beads frame 3 garnet glass beads. Red lodolite appears mostly clear, with whisps of red throughout or a faint red hue, calling in blood streaking through water or dispersed throughout. Garnet glass is chosen for embodying the blood itself, spilled into her waters. Between each section are lengths of gold tone stainless steel figaro chain framing glass beads in aquatic blue, with streaks of crimson and gold. This further echoes the theme of blood in the water, an offering itself to Rán, as well as gold which is sacred to her. Her home beneath the sea where she tends to those who have perished in her waters is said to be lit with gold, called the fire of the sea. Gold coins were also offered to her for safe passage through her waters; she was thought to spare those who fell overboard with gold in their pockets, instead taking only the coins. The central cross piece is made with polymer clay in an ocean blue pattern with gentle waves throughout, with an etched net pattern in gold laid overtop. Rán was said to pull sailors down into her depths with a net which she is said to have created; we rendered this motif in gold for connection to the metal. Beneath this cross piece hangs the vertical section, with the same motif of red lodolite and garnet glass rendered in 3 beads rather than 9 for the element of manifestation contained in the number 3. At the bottom hangs a silver sickle with a small skull on its handle. This honors how Rán is said to reap the those who perish at sea and her home beneath the waters where she tends to them.

The loop portion of this rosary, that can be put over one's head to wear as a necklace, is 27.5 inches, with an additional 9 inches dangling vertically from the top of the cross piece to the end of the pendant.

There are a variety of metals included in this piece, including: gold tone stainless steel and stainless steel. These metals can tarnish with use, though this can be avoided with care. To avoid tarnishing, avoid contact with liquids whenever possible and let any cosmetics, lotions, or perfumes/colognes dry completely before putting on your necklace. Store in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight. Keeping your jewelry in a sealed container, such as a jewelry box or plastic bag, can prevent tarnishing by limiting exposure to air, sunlight, heat, and moisture. This is best done if air is pushed out of any plastic bag before sealing and with something included to remove moisture, such as a silica pack or anti-tarnish strip. This is not an exhaustive list of anti-tarnish measures, nor are these measures a guarantee that tarnishing will not occur when worn.

DISCLAIMER: For legal purposes, we must make it clear that this product and the information included is for entertainment and historical education purposes only.
