Aphrodite Anadyomene Rosary
Aphrodite Anadyomene Rosary
Our Aphrodite Rosary is a handmade piece of devotional jewelry that can be worn as a necklace to bring Lady Aphrodite’s energy and blessings with you throughout the day or used as prayer beads dedicated to her. Anaduomenê refers to the epithet of the goddess rising from the dark depths of the primordial waters into sea foam. This rosary features sections of hand wrapped glass pearls separated by dainty gold-tone figaro chain and clear beads filled with rose petal and gold leaf that are made by hand by your local trickster spirits and not available elsewhere. These beads are finished with gold-tone bead caps and made with the same elements as the matching center cross-piece, one of our signature Aphrodite Coins that is available in our other designs. This rosary finishes in an Aphrodite icon pendant, made from a gold-dipped real scallop shell with a relief of a mermaid nestled inside and finished with a small glass pearl on the attachment.
This rosary features three symbols of Aphrodite that we have found are paths that lead to deeper understanding of the Lady when explored: the Rose, the Pearl, and Gold. The Rose, which we link with Aphrodite Antheia (Aphrodite the Blooming), is associated with Beauty in Greek tradition and both death and rebirth in the Roman. We associate the Pearl with Aphrodite Anadyomene (Aphrodite Rising from the Sea) for its focus on beauty in transition from one state to the next, from the sea to land or from grit to Pearl. Gold tones, in their wide variety of applications, link to an equally wide variety of Aphrodite's epithets, as gold has been prized for its beauty throughout the ages, is considered a precious metal to be cherished, and represents Aphrodite in a Solar aspect, much like the golden glint of sunlight off the shimmering surface of clear water.
This rosary design is informed by the numerology Aphrodite is linked to. The Lady is often associated with the numbers 5 and 8, which we included throughout the design of this rosary. There are 5 segments of pearls, with each one including 5 glass pearl beads. In the looping section of chain that would hang around the neck if worn as a necklace, there are 4 oval-shaped rose-and-gold beads; each is finished with 2 bead caps to bring in the essence of the number 8. The vertical section hanging from the Aphrodite Coin cross-piece includes 3 glass pearls (with 3 being a number heavily associated with witchcraft), and 2 spherical rose-and-gold beads, each finished with a single bead cap, for a total of 5 beads in the hanging vertical section that ends with our Aphrodite icon shell pendant.
Every element in this piece is worked by hand to imbue the piece with intention to bring the wearer closer to Aphrodite and her Mysteries. With its focus on unapologetically thorny but gorgeous roses and the transformative quality of the humble grit that develops into a stunning pearl, all supported by the ever-shining beauty of gold-tones, this rosary opens the door for Aphrodite to lead the wearer to self-love. As she outpours Love for others, so too does she Love herself, and she takes great joy in teaching others to do the same. Wearing this rosary or praying with it opens the door to allow Aphrodite to teach you these lessons as well.
The loop portion of this rosary, that can be put over one's head to wear as a necklace, is 24 inches, with an additional 7 inches dangling vertically from the top of the Aphrodite Coin cross-piece to the end of the Aphrodite shell pendant.
There are a variety of metals included in this piece, including: lead and nickel free gold-tone alloy, gold plated iron, and gold plated brass. These metals can tarnish with use, though this can be avoided with care. To avoid tarnishing, avoid contact with liquids whenever possible and let any cosmetics, lotions, or perfumes/colognes dry completely before putting on your necklace. Store in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight. Keeping your jewelry in a sealed container, such as a jewelry box or plastic bag, can prevent tarnishing by limiting exposure to air, sunlight, heat, and moisture. This is best done if air is pushed out of any plastic bag before sealing and with something included to remove moisture, such as a silica pack or anti-tarnish strip. This is not an exhaustive list of anti-tarnish measures, nor are these measures a guarantee that tarnishing will not occur when worn.
For an additional way to work with this piece, please consider our Aphrodite prayer card. It features a fully illustrated front, hand-drawn by one of your local tricksters, while the back includes a prayer written by your other local trickster in the Lady's honor. The prayer can be used to consecrate this piece and deepen your connection with Aphrodite, while the card itself is an excellent altar card and portable way to keep Aphrodite close to your heart as you go about your day. Prayer Card
This Prayer Card is devoted to Aphrodite Antheia: Aphrodite the Blooming or Aphrodite the Friend of Flowers. In this aspect, Aphrodite is closely associated with the vegetative cycle; in particular, with both Blooming and Withering. The primary symbol we work with in connection with Aphrodite Antheia is the Rose. While the Greeks primarily associate the Rose with Beauty, the Romans associated the Rose with both death and rebirth. As is done with tarot cards, we used different forms of symbolism to incorporate these themes into this Prayer Card.
