Our Ereshkigal Amulets for Grief Relief call upon the Sumerian goddess of the Underworld, Ereshkigal, sister of Inanna/Ishtar. When Inanna makes her descent to the Underworld, it's to comfort her sister, Ereshkigal, who recently lost her husband. Ereshkigal keeps Inanna there, as no one is allowed to enter and leave the Afterlife; she is only released when emissaries are sent to grieve alongside Ereshkigal. These necklaces are under the auspices of Ereshkigal and call upon her blessings. They are designed to share the grief of the wearer with Ereshkigal, thereby releasing and relieving the grief itself, much as Ereshkigal's suffering was relieved when she was able to share it. Wear this necklace to ease the ache of your heart as you proceed throughout your day.
We have three styles currently available:
- Tiers of the Queen: The central element of this necklace is made with tiered leopard skin jasper in dusty sand tones that call in the arid Underworld of Ereshkigal; each stone is separated with a golden space bead. Gold is chosen for this piece to represent the sun glinting off the sand; this color is echoed in the gold-tone stainless steel figaro chain that separates each matte obsidian bead of the chain. Matte obsidian was chosen for its embodiment of the dark depths of the Underworld. Even when we are in the darkest, driest areas with no hope for physical relief, we can still access the relief of grief by sharing our sorrows with Ereshkigal. This necklace measures 21 inches.
- Cave of Crystal: This piece honors the descent to the Underworld, often reached through a cave that delves down into the earth. It features a triangular piece of Orca Agate with a central druzy pocket, calling in a crystalline cave dripping with crystal stalagmites and surrounded by dark shadows, much like the pattern of the pendant. This stone is wrapped in a woven copper 'basket' that the stone is nestled inside with decorative flourishes on the front and back. The warm tones of the desert are called in through the copper and the stones that frame the pendant. Fossilized coral in sand tones lead to sunset pink lodolite, both chosen for their embodiment of the warm, stunning tones of the desert at dusk, when we descend into the earth like the sun. The darkness of the Underworld's shadows are called in through the matte obsidian beads that finish the beaded section. The chain of this piece is made with rose gold to further call in the warm tones of the desert. This necklace measures 23.5 inches.
- Fossilized Beauty: This piece honors the beauty still able to be found in the Underworld and the treasures preserved in the earth as fossils. It encourages us to uncover our flaws, dust them off, and look at them with a fresh eye to find the beauty they contain. This quality is called in through the pendant, made of an oval piece of Turritella Agate, which shows fossilized shells within the stone. This stone is wrapped in a woven copper 'basket' that the stone is nestled inside with decorative flourishes on the front and back. There are a variety of metals included in this piece, including: gold-tone stainless steel and lead/nickel free alloys. Gold-tone stainless steel is tarnish-resistant and will withstand greater exposure to sunlight and water, however, tarnishing of other metals in the necklace can be avoided with care. To avoid tarnishing, avoid contact with liquids whenever possible and let any cosmetics, lotions, or perfumes/colognes dry completely before putting on your necklace. Store in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight. Keeping your jewelry in a sealed container, such as a jewelry box or plastic bag, can prevent tarnishing by limiting exposure to air, sunlight, heat, and moisture. This is best done if air is pushed out of any plastic bag before sealing and with something included to remove moisture, such as a silica pack or anti-tarnish strip. This is not an exhaustive list of anti-tarnish measures, nor are these measures a guarantee that tarnishing will not occur when worn.
