Our Malocchio Rosaries are inspired by Italian folk magic wards against the evil eye, or malocchio, and are styled after traditional rosaries. Our Malocchio Rosaries features 3 segments of 13 red coral beads, separated by blue glass evil eye beads and a length of chain.  The number 13 is a particularly lucky number in Italy, while the number 3 is a central number in Italian witchcraft practices.  The center cross-piece features a guarding eye and each is finished with a pendant of a protective symbol from Italian folk magic.

We have three styles available:
- Cornicello: features 4mm smooth red coral beads, separated by lengths of gold-plated brass figaro chain. The center piece is a blue enamel guarding eye, while the pendant is a cornicello (aka cornetto). This pendant is modeled after either a horn or chili pepper (both protective symbols) and is typically worn by Italian men.
- Manu Figa: features 3mm faceted red coral beads, separated by lengths of silver-plated alloy chain. The center piece is an iron medallion with a guarding eye stamped into the center, while the pendant is a silver-plated manu figa (fig hand). This symbol shows one of the protective/warding gestures central to Italian folk magic and is typically worn by Italian women.
- Siren's Shield: features 3mm faceted red coral beads, separated by lengths of gold-plated alloy chain. The center piece is a blue enamel guarding eye. The pendant is a hand, a protective symbol against the evil eye with truly ancient roots, with a guarding eye in the center of the palm. Above it hangs a small scallop shell charm with lovely patina, as if it had been hanging near the ocean La Sirena (the Siren) calls home. La Sirena has long been associated with malocchio protection in Italian folk magic, and the scallop is one of her symbols. Its shell guards the tender creature that calls it home; so too will the scallop shell shield you from the envy and malice of others.
- Cimaruta Card: This altar card and reference guide delves into protective symbols against the evil eye found in Italian folk magic. The front features a hand-drawn depiction of our rendition of an ancient malocchio ward, the Cimaruta; the necklace form is available in our shop. The back includes a reference guide for protective symbols that can be worked with alongside your piece, and provides additional context to elements of your rosary. Please be aware that the symbols depicted in the pendants of these rosaries are *not* covered in this reference guide. PLEASE NOTE: this option *ONLY* includes the altar card. If you would like to purchase this altar card as well as a rosary, please add each individually to your cart.

Each amulet has been prayed over and blessed by your local tricksters in the tradition of our Italian ancestors. To do this, we first call in our Italian ancestors, that they may facilitate the working with La Sirena, the Siren, who has been associated with warding off the evil eye throughout history. Each amulet is first put through a kinetic blessing, where the motion of the gesture is used to teach the piece how to guard its wearer. Gestures have historically been an essential part of Italian folk magic, with some calling Italian folk magic practices 'segnature' to honor the signs/gestures used in the practice. During this process, the amulet is prayed over and additional signs are made over it as we ask La Sirena to bless both the ward and its wearer with her protection. Once this has been completed, it is tucked inside our blessing box designed for the consecration of wards against il malocchio. Made with a vintage hand-painted wooden box from Italy, our blessing box is filled with protective herbs, talismans, and charms that all protect against the evil eye. The video above shows our blessing box and the last photo shows this amulet placed inside. Each amulet rests inside the box, guarded and tended by La Sirena, for 3 days. May she guard you and prevent il malocchio from finding you!

The wearable portion of each rosary is approximately 26.5 inches long, while the vertical section is 8.3 inches from the top of the cross-piece to the end of the pendant. Please note there may be some variations in length.

All metal elements of this necklace, save the evil eye cross-piece and cornicello pendant are made of gold-tone stainless steel. Gold-tone stainless steel is non-tarnishing and will withstand greater exposure to sunlight and water. However, the evil eye cross piece and cornicello pendant are able to tarnish, though care for these elements can help prevent tarnishing. The cornicello pendant is made of gold-plated alloy, while the center evil eye cross-piece is made of lead and nickel free gold-tone alloy.  To avoid tarnishing, avoid contact with liquids whenever possible and let any cosmetics, lotions, or perfumes/colognes dry completely before putting on your necklace. Store in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight. Keeping your jewelry in a sealed container, such as a jewelry box or plastic bag, can prevent tarnishing by limiting exposure to air, sunlight, heat, and moisture. This is best done if air is pushed out of any plastic bag before sealing and with something included to remove moisture, such as a silica pack or anti-tarnish strip. This is not an exhaustive list of anti-tarnish measures, nor are these measures a guarantee that tarnishing will not occur when wearing. Though most elements on this piece will not tarnish, to prevent tarnishing of the cross piece and pendant, we do not recommend wearing this necklace in the shower or submerging it in water to care for the elements able to tarnish.
