Nestlings of Baba Yaga - Scrying Mirror
Nestlings of Baba Yaga - Scrying Mirror
Our Nestling’s Window scrying mirrors tap into the magic of Baba Yaga and her chicken-footed hut. The scrying surfaces of these mirrors are framed by a branch motif in silver-tone metal and include a stand that allows them to sit upright on their own. The top of the frame is adorned with a wooden roof covered with moss, small flowers, and a silver eye for both psychic clarity and the returning gaze of both Baba Yaga and her hut. At the bottom of the frame, two small bird claws made of silver-tone metal are attached, much like the chicken feet of Baba Yaga’s hut.
These mirrors are Nestlings of Baba Yaga’s hut–younger, smaller versions of her companion-home. We encourage working with your Nestling to build a relationship with it as a spirit of the domestic realm/home and as a companion for a deeper connection while scrying. This process of bonding with your Nestling is also a very helpful step in proving to Baba Yaga that you are approaching her and those she cares for with honesty, compassion, and an open-heart. The amount of bonding you do with your Nestling is your decision, though we do encourage approaching your Nestling with an animist perspective at minimum. For best use, acknowledge your Nestling as a spiritual partner in your witchcraft and do your best not to treat it as an object, but with the respect you’d give the living.
Scrying with your Nestling can be as elaborate or simple as is helpful for you. We encourage envisioning that you are sitting in a comfortable home space inside your Nestling before you begin. When scrying, visualize peering out of the window of our Nestling during a pitch-black night. Then, establish a connection with Baba Yaga and her Dancing Hut, so that the window of your Nestling allows you to peer into her home for the answers you seek; a charm associated with entering Baba Yaga’s hut is the chant: “Hut, Hut–turn your back to the forest and your front to me.” This will help establish a connection to her Hut, though we encourage establishing a relationship with Baba Yaga before peering into her window, or at least providing offerings of some form before doing so.
All our scrying mirrors are prepared magically and with intention throughout each step of the crafting process. We begin preparing our materials by cleansing each element with a hand-blended mix of purifying waters. Once the scrying surface has been prepared, it is first marked with a handcrafted bind rune to promote psychic clarity and protection. This bind rune is carefully blended into the deep black of the scrying mirror using 3 separate layers of paint. This ensures an evenly black surface while infusing the mirror with the magic of the number 3, known for its mystical properties, and gently diffusing the magic of the bind rune throughout the entire scrying surface. Once each element has been lovingly prepared and assembled, every mirror is washed with a tea for increased psychic clarity and protection made from hand-blended mixture of herbs centering around Mugwort.
