Anubis Travel Altar/Altar Box
Anubis Travel Altar/Altar Box
Our Anubis travel box is handcrafted in devotion to Anubis, Keeper of the Underworld. It's filled with handmade offerings that helps you bring the wisdom and guidance of Anubis with you wherever you go. Each altar kit is perfectly portable and delightfully discreet, making it a perfect fit for witches on the go, those still in the broom closet, and pagans looking for a starter kit for a new altar.
Each altar is emblazoned with an image of Anubis in gold, jackal-headed and holding an ankh in one hand.
Inside are handmade items to bring you closer to Anubis, including:
Sarcophagus Tile - Represents Anubis’ role in bandaging mummies and also in the ceremony in the Opening of the Mouth Ritual in which he gives the undead its five senses back. The empty relief represents the ka, the essence of the soul, leaving the body of the mummy to rebirth in the afterlife.
Sphinx Tile - Anubis is the protector of the tombs and is in charge of punishing those who may violate the final resting places. His image was carved on the outside of tombs to warn graverobbers especially for the common Egyptian as deities were not allowed to be portrayed on the inside of nonroyal tombs.
Scarab Tile - The scarab was a symbol of the immortal soul being reborn in the afterlife and representative of the cycle of the sun as Ra dying and being reborn every day. The scarab god Khepri was often invoked alongside Anubis to prevent putrefaction post mortem.
Prayer Beads - The prayer beads depict Anubis’ role as the Overseer of the Scales before the throne room of Osiris, where he weighs each heart against Ma’at’s feather of truth to judge the final resting place of the soul.
Anubis with Crook - Anubis was often portrayed with a crook in his arm, a symbol of kingship and authority. It was representative of a shepherd’s crook who guides and herds the flock, as Anubis does with the souls of the dead, as he was the lord of the underworld before Osiris.
Anubis Hieroglyphic - The word hieroglyphics translates from Greek into “sacred carving.” The hieroglyphic logographic that represented the deities in Egyptian writing were considered powerful and magical in invoking the deity.
Juniper / Cypress - Kyphi is a compound incense that was made by the Egyptians for both religious and medicinal purposes. Kyphi was a sacred incense used in ceremonies and usually consisted of sixteen components that kept ten mainstay ingredients with variants for the other six. Some of the mainstay ingredients were juniper berries and cypress grass, here replaced with cypress leaves. This altar contains one large bottle of cypress and one small bottle of juniper berries
-1 Golden Sands scented tea light
Each tin is 3.5inx2.5inx0.8in.
For an additional way to work with this piece, please consider our prayer card to Anubis. It features a vintage depiction of Anubis on the front, while the back includes a prayer written by one of your local tricksters in Anubis's honor. The prayer can be used to consecrate this altar and deepen your connection with Him, while the card itself is an excellent altar card and portable way to keep Anubis close to your heart as you go about your day. If you'd like to purchase one alongside your travel altar, add the Combo Pack option to your cart: it includes both the travel altar and prayer card.
