Aphrodite Areia features an often forgotten aspect of the love goddess -- Aphrodite the Warlike. This epithet depicted Aphrodite clad in armor similar to Ares. It ties into the goddess' connection to Middle eastern goddesses such as the Sumerian Inanna, Mesopotamian Ishtar and Phoenician Astarte. There are several representations of Aphrodite the Warlike under different names. Aphrodite Encheios is Aphrodite with a spear, while more common epithets like Aphrodite Ourania -- Aphrodite the Heavenly -- would also show her in martial regalia.

Aphrodite Areia represents the thorny aspect of the rose. She is cloaked in irresistible beauty, but also has surrounded herself in a blanket of bramble thorns. In no way is Aphrodite a helpless damsel in distress. She takes her destiny in her own hands and demands the respect that she deserves. The love she displays is not just lust, but also celestial love of body and soul and the idea of self love and confidence.

Our Golden Victory statues features Aphrodite Areia surrounded in a wreath of golden laurels, crowning her in victory. We have two styles available:

+ gilded gold, which is made of a handmixed gold clay and hand dusted in red and gold mica to bring red in her cheeks and her headdress, this version mimics faded painted Greco-Roman statuary
+ marble, which is made of white clay and placed on a domed hand painted black surface, this version mimics the museum whitened marble statues that have lost their color to antiquity

Each Aphrodite Areia measures 2 inches x 1.5 inches x 0.5 inches.

For an additional way to work with this piece, please consider our Aphrodite prayer card. It features a fully illustrated front, hand-drawn by one of your local tricksters, while the back includes a prayer written by your other local trickster in the Lady's honor. The prayer can be used to consecrate this piece and deepen your connection with Aphrodite, while the card itself is an excellent altar card and portable way to keep Aphrodite close to your heart as you go about your day. Prayer Card

This Prayer Card is devoted to Aphrodite Antheia: Aphrodite the Blooming or Aphrodite the Friend of Flowers. In this aspect, Aphrodite is closely associated with the vegetative cycle; in particular, with both Blooming and Withering. The primary symbol we work with in connection with Aphrodite Antheia is the Rose. While the Greeks primarily associate the Rose with Beauty, the Romans associated the Rose with both death and rebirth. As is done with tarot cards, we used different forms of symbolism to incorporate these themes into this Prayer Card.
