Aphrodite Dionaea Earrings
Aphrodite Dionaea Earrings
These earrings honor Aphrodite Dionaea, an epithet that honors her many sacred symbols. Each of these earrings contains one of Aphrodite's sacred symbols, paired with either a glass pearl or a genuine freshwater pearl. Each is hung from a hypoallergenic level back hoop made of either sterling silver plated brass or gold plated brass.
We have the following styles available:
- Golden Apple: Hanging from a gold-plated brass lever-back hoop, these earrings include genuine freshwater pearls to honor Aphrodite's associations with the ocean and beauty. Beneath is our recreation of the Golden Apple, once tossed into a gathering of the gods labeled 'For the Fairest' that launched the Trojan War. It's made with natural apple coral, further embodying Aphrodite's oceanic qualities, and capped with gold-tone stainless steel floral filigree. One small golden leaf crowns the apple, each wrapped by hand to attach it to the pearl.
- Chariot: Hanging from a sterling silver-plated brass lever-back hoop, these earrings include a glass pearl above small silver doves. Doves wearing jeweled yokes were said to pull Aphrodite's chariots while songbirds and swallows accompanied her to announce the goddess' approach in song. Doves continue to be a symbol of love and under the care of Aphrodite.
- Ourania: Hanging from a gold-plated brass lever-back hoop, these earrings include a glass pearl above small golden turtles. Aphrodite Ourania is the Lady's heavenly aspect; this spiritually divine face of Aphrodite had iconography of her stepping on a turtle or tortoise. The turtle, during the time that the original statue was sculpted, represented women staying at home and being silent. Heavenly Aphrodite steps on the idea of her femininity being confined to the home and servile to men. She knows her worth, as a golden goddess adorned in pearls.
For an additional way to work with this piece, please consider our Aphrodite prayer card. It features a fully illustrated front, hand-drawn by one of your local tricksters, while the back includes a prayer written by your other local trickster in the Lady's honor. The prayer can be used to consecrate this piece and deepen your connection with Aphrodite, while the card itself is an excellent altar card and portable way to keep Aphrodite close to your heart as you go about your day. If you'd like one for yourself, add the variation on this listing that says 'Prayer Card Only.' Please be aware that this variation includes ONLY the Aphrodite prayer card and does NOT include any of the earrings listed above. Please add both the prayer card and your earring option of choice to your cart if you'd like to purchase both.
Each earring utilizes high quality lever backs made of sterling silver plated brass or gold plated brass; they are lead and nickel free for those with sensitive ears. These materials can tarnish with use, though this can be avoided with care. To avoid tarnishing, avoid contact with liquids whenever possible and let any cosmetics, lotions, or perfumes/colognes dry completely before putting on your necklace. Store in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight. Keeping your jewelry in a sealed container, such as a jewelry box or plastic bag, can prevent tarnishing by limiting exposure to air, sunlight, heat, and moisture. This is best done if air is pushed out of any plastic bag before sealing and with something included to remove moisture, such as a silica pack or anti-tarnish strip. This is not an exhaustive list of anti-tarnish measures, nor are these measures a guarantee that tarnishing will not occur when worn.

Prayer Card
This Prayer Card is devoted to Aphrodite Antheia: Aphrodite the Blooming or Aphrodite the Friend of Flowers. In this aspect, Aphrodite is closely associated with the vegetative cycle; in particular, with both Blooming and Withering. The primary symbol we work with in connection with Aphrodite Antheia is the Rose. While the Greeks primarily associate the Rose with Beauty, the Romans associated the Rose with both death and rebirth. As is done with tarot cards, we used different forms of symbolism to incorporate these themes into this Prayer Card.
