Bastet's Midnight Gaze

Our Midnight Gaze earrings are silver-tone devotional earrings and protective amulets dedicated to the goddess Bast in her aspect as Lunar Protector. These earrings are handmade and feature an icon of Bastet in her cat form framed by a ring-shaped charm depicting the phases of the moon hanging from a silver hoop with lever-back closure.

Bast's aspect as the Lunar Protector stems from her association with the Eye of Ra. She is a lunar goddess in her own right and has been referred to as both the Eye of Ra and the Eye of the Moon. As the Eye of the Moon, she watches over the Earth at night from her lunar vantage point. As the Eye of Ra, she protects that which her watchful eye guards by reflecting solar light and protection to the Earth as moonlight. These earrings call upon Bast in this aspect, asking for her blessing as the Lunar Protector and watchful nighttime guardian.

When putting on these earrings for the day, ask Bast to turn her Midnight Gaze upon you and watch over you as she watches over the world each night. When out and about, we recommend ensuring the Bastet icons face away from you, so that she may protect you from outside forces. When struggling with internal conflict, we recommend facing the Bast icons inward to combat the attacks we aim at ourselves. Facing the Bastet icons inward can also help when clarity is needed regarding introspective matters; Bast's Midnight Gaze turned inward can help to shine a lunar, clarifying light on those concerns.

Our Midnight Gaze earrings are a total of 1.5 inches in length from the top of the hoop to the bottom of the Bast icon and 0.7 inches at their widest point.

Our Midnight Gaze earrings are made using sterling silver plated brass hoops (lead and nickel free) and charms made with zinc alloy (lead, nickel, and cadmium free). These metals can tarnish with use, though this can be avoided with care. To avoid tarnishing, avoid contact with liquids whenever possible and let any cosmetics, lotions, or perfumes/colognes dry completely before putting on your necklace. Store in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight. Keeping your jewelry in a sealed container, such as a jewelry box or plastic bag, can prevent tarnishing by limiting exposure to air, sunlight, heat, and moisture. This is best done if air is pushed out of any plastic bag before sealing and with something included to remove moisture, such as a silica pack or anti-tarnish strip. This is not an exhaustive list of anti-tarnish measures, nor are these measures a guarantee that tarnishing will not occur when worn.
