Gorgon's Gaze - Medusa Protective Amulet Necklace

The Gorgon's Gaze is an amuletic necklace handmade in devotion to Medusa, Queen of the Gorgons and a powerful goddess in her own right. Her head, crowned in snakes with wings at her temples, has been an apotropaic symbol for centuries in frescoes and mosaics, and is a potent defense against il malocchio (the evil eye). This necklace can be worn to keep il malocchio away, as well as in devotion to Medusa herself. Every bead is wrapped by hand and worked with intention.

The center pendant depicts the Aegis, an apotropaic symbol used since antiquity for protection. It depicts Medusa in the center, with her curling snake hair and her chthonic wings of wisdom at her temples all loosely represented, with protective rays backing her. The pendant is made of stainless steel, with the center being its natural tone and the outer ring in a gold-tone. On either side of the pendant are 5 beads: two black lava rock beads framing a protective eye bead. Black lava rock calls in the shadows of Medusa's cave, the home she defends. The protective eye bead on most of our options is golden, with an etched eye. The other protective eye bead is triangular, made of Czech glass, and capped on either side by gold-tone stainless steel in one of our silver options. These beads are black, with an eye with protective rays etched into the center in gold. They embody Medusa's snake-eyes staring protectively back at those who would look at you with ill intent.

This necklace is made using primarily gold-tone stainless steel, which is tarnish resistant and can withstand greater exposure to water, sunlight, and heat without damage. However, it is possible for these metals to tarnish with  prolonged use; this can be avoided with care. To avoid tarnishing, avoid contact with liquids whenever possible and let any cosmetics, lotions, or perfumes/colognes dry completely before putting on your necklace. Store in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight. Keeping your jewelry in a sealed container, such as a jewelry box or plastic bag, can prevent tarnishing by limiting exposure to air, sunlight, heat, and moisture. This is best done if air is pushed out of any plastic bag before sealing and with something included to remove moisture, such as a silica pack or anti-tarnish strip. This is not an exhaustive list of anti-tarnish measures, nor are these measures a guarantee that tarnishing will not occur when worn.
