This small batch, ritual loose incense blend honors Hekate, Greek Goddess of Witchcraft. It is handmade with sustainably foraged oak leaves, mugwort, cypress, walnut, cinnamon, skullcap, benzoin, dragon's blood, yellow sandalwood, and tumeric. These elements were chosen for their links with Hekate's traditional worship and their ability to call in specific aspects of her presence. When burned, it gives the impression of gentle warmth, like the sun in autumn, rather than the overwhelming heat of the sun in summer. As Hekate is a light in the dark, so too does this incense call in that subtle warmth.
This incense is honey cured, inspired by traditional Egyptian kyphi incense, with honey blended by hand evenly through the mixture. It is then compressed into an even layer and allowed to cure for a full lunar cycle before it's broken up and appears as you see in the photos.
Each jar contains approximately 1.7oz of incense. To burn this blend, place the incense on a secondary heat source, such as a lit charcoal disc in a fire-safe container. It can also be burned above a tealight using an incense burner designed with such functions. Please do not leave fire of any sort burning unattended.
