Our Rán rosary honors the Norse goddess of the Sea and its Underworld, Rán. Each bead is wrapped by hand with intention to call in this goddess of icy, turbulent waters and the flashing fire of gold they contain. Wear or pray with this rosary to call in the blessings of Rán, the abundance of her waters, and her apotropaic blessings, that you may pass through even the most turbulent of waters unscathed.

This rosary is handmade with 4 sections of 9 beads that call in the essence of blood in the water, sacred to Rán who cares for the drowned and those who perish at sea. All elements are strung on gold-tone stainless steel. The number four was chosen to calling stability while navigating difficult waters, while 9 was chosen for being so very sacred in the Norse cosmology. Two sections of 3 red lodolite beads frame 3 garnet glass beads. Red lodolite appears mostly clear, with whisps of red throughout or a faint red hue, calling in blood streaking through water or dispersed throughout. Garnet glass is chosen for embodying the blood itself, spilled into her waters. Between each section are lengths of gold tone stainless steel figaro chain framing glass beads in aquatic blue, with streaks of crimson and gold. This further echoes the theme of blood in the water, an offering itself to Rán, as well as gold which is sacred to her. Her home beneath the sea where she tends to those who have perished in her waters is said to be lit with gold, called the fire of the sea. Gold coins were also offered to her for safe passage through her waters; she was thought to spare those who fell overboard with gold in their pockets, instead taking only the coins. The central cross piece is made with polymer clay in an ocean blue pattern with gentle waves throughout, with an etched net pattern in gold laid overtop. Rán was said to pull sailors down into her depths with a net which she is said to have created; we rendered this motif in gold for connection to the metal. Beneath this cross piece hangs the vertical section, with the same motif of red lodolite and garnet glass rendered in 3 beads rather than 9 for the element of manifestation contained in the number 3. At the bottom hangs a silver sickle with a small skull on its handle. This honors how Rán is said to reap the those who perish at sea and her home beneath the waters where she tends to them.

The loop portion of this rosary, that can be put over one's head to wear as a necklace, is 27.5 inches, with an additional 9 inches dangling vertically from the top of the cross piece to the end of the pendant.

There are a variety of metals included in this piece, including: gold tone stainless steel and stainless steel. These metals can tarnish with use, though this can be avoided with care. To avoid tarnishing, avoid contact with liquids whenever possible and let any cosmetics, lotions, or perfumes/colognes dry completely before putting on your necklace. Store in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight. Keeping your jewelry in a sealed container, such as a jewelry box or plastic bag, can prevent tarnishing by limiting exposure to air, sunlight, heat, and moisture. This is best done if air is pushed out of any plastic bag before sealing and with something included to remove moisture, such as a silica pack or anti-tarnish strip. This is not an exhaustive list of anti-tarnish measures, nor are these measures a guarantee that tarnishing will not occur when worn.
