The Mummified Mother - Bastet's Rosary
The Mummified Mother rosary is handcrafted in devotion to Bastet, Mother-Guardian of Kittens and She Who Dances with Death. This necklace is made with sections of 11 mini, faceted lapis lazuli beads, separated by hand-wrapped garnet glass beads and strung on gold-tone chain. The cross-piece of this rosary shows the phases of the moon cut into a half-circle. Completing this rosary is a golden pendant showing a mummified cat in representation of Bast. Wear or pray with this rosary to call in Bast’s fierce protection and even fiercer joy in periods of difficulty and death as well as dance and delight.
Bast is the 11th sign in Egyptian astrology, leading to the 11 beads of lapis lazuli in this rosary, which is a stone associated with her historical worship. Beads of garnet glass are included as a reminder of Bastet’s fierce protective qualities, as they look like drops of blood strung on the chain. The center cross piece, with moon phases cut into golden metal, are reminiscent of the moon reflecting in a bowl of perfumed water as it passes overhead. The pendant shows a mummified version of Bast; mummified cats have been found in ancient Egyptian tombs, showing the importance of cat worship, cat companionship in Death, and Bast herself.
This rosary is 27.75 inches long in the section that is worn around the neck and dangles 5.5 inches vertically from the top of the cross-piece to the bottom of the pendant.
There are a variety of metals included in this piece, including: lead and nickel free gold-tone alloy, as well as gold plated iron, brass, and stainless steel. These metals can tarnish with use, though this can be avoided with care. To avoid tarnishing, avoid contact with liquids whenever possible and let any cosmetics, lotions, or perfumes/colognes dry completely before putting on your necklace. Store in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight. Keeping your jewelry in a sealed container, such as a jewelry box or plastic bag, can prevent tarnishing by limiting exposure to air, sunlight, heat, and moisture. This is best done if air is pushed out of any plastic bag before sealing and with something included to remove moisture, such as a silica pack or anti-tarnish strip. This is not an exhaustive list of anti-tarnish measures, nor are these measures a guarantee that tarnishing will not occur when worn.
