The Siren's Shelter - Evil Eye Necklace

The Siren’s Shelter is an amulet of protection empowered by Italian folk magic wards against the evil eye, or malocchio. This necklace is made using glass Nazar (blue evil eye) beads and oval red coral beads, separated by gold-plated stainless steel figaro chain and finished with a gold-plated stainless steel lobster clasp. Completing this necklace is a double-tailed siren with a beautiful patina, as if she has just been lifted from the sea-spray of her home. Wear this necklace to help ward off the evil eye in your life.

The protective power of the siren is a crucial part of Italian folk magic against the evil eye, with amulets and talismans found throughout history featuring the double-tailed siren and her associated items. Red coral is a common feature of malocchio wards, drawing on the siren’s power through the coral and the inherent protective qualities of the color red in Italian folk magic. Nazar beads draw their power from the belief that people with blue eyes are especially powerful with il malocchio; the beads meet the gaze of anyone casting the evil eye and turn it away with their own gaze. 

Each necklace has been prayed over and blessed by one of your local trickster's Italian ancestors. To do so, we created a blessing box using a vintage wooden box made in Italy, filled with protective herbs and charms. Each talisman is placed inside just before sunrise and removed just after sunset to imbue the golden metal with the sun's protective energy that it is associated with. This box rests on our kitchen altar dedicated to our Italian ancestors, who we ask to bless each piece, in addition to us praying over it. We encourage all wearers to work with their amulet and perform their own cleansings, consecrations, and blessings over their amulet as needed.

This necklace is 18 inches in length and finished with a lobster clasp.

This necklace is made using gold-plated stainless steel. Though gold-plated stainless steel is tarnish resistant, it can still tarnish. This can be avoided by taking care with your necklace. To avoid tarnishing, avoid contact with liquids whenever possible and let any cosmetics, lotions, or perfumes/colognes dry completely before putting on your necklace. Store in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight. Keeping your jewelry in a sealed container, such as a jewelry box or plastic bag, can prevent tarnishing by limiting exposure to air, sunlight, heat, and moisture. This is best done if air is pushed out of any plastic bag before sealing and with something included to remove moisture, such as a silica pack or anti-tarnish strip. This is not an exhaustive list of anti-tarnish measures, nor are these measures a guarantee that tarnishing will not occur when worn.
