Made of weathered cast iron, this vintage piece depicts a silhouetted tree of life above a hook. The Tree of Life is a symbol that appears in many mythologies and is especially common in Celtic paganism, though it can also represent Yggdrasil, the World Tree of Norse cosmology. It can be worked with to call in wild spaces for an altar to Cernunnos, Pan, the Horned God, and others. As a representation of Yggdrasil, it can be an altar to Odin, who hangs from the World Tree to retrieve the runes, or other figures associated with Yggdrasil, such as Sleipnir, Nidhoggr, Ratatoskr, Hresvelgr, the Nornir, and more. Hang witch's ladders or offerings from wild spaces, like pine cones, branches, roots, or moss to deities of the wilderness. To call in Yggdrasil, consider hanging strands of runes, pendulums for divination, or even a small depiction of a person to represent Odin as he retrieved the runes.
This piece has a single large hook protruding from the front, ideal for hanging the offerings discussed above, rosaries or sacred jewelry, witch's ladders, bells; the only limit is your creativity. It can be difficult to have large, elaborate altars, especially when space is in short supply. Flat surfaces often need to be put to more practical uses, and you may have many deities and spirits you'd like to have an altar to, but simply no place to put it. Hanging altars are a perfect solution to this problem, as we often have more wall space available than we do on flat surfaces. This is style of altar is especially ideal for witches still in the broom closet, who may not be able to have obvious altars in their space. Practical pieces like this one can hold items like keys or jewelry that need a home while allowing us to bring our gods into even the most mundane parts of our lives. Entrust your daily jewelry or household keys to your gods to be charged in their care, or hang offerings and tools of witchcraft in their care with this hanging altar in his honor.
This piece measures 6 x 8 x 2.25 inches.
